Sunday Scripture

4th Nephi 1:15-18

15 And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.
16 And there were no envyings, nor strifes, nor tumults, nor whoredoms, nor lyings, nor murders, nor any manner of lasciviousness; and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God.
17 There were no robbers, nor murderers, neither were there Lamanites, nor any manner of -ites; but they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God.
18 And how blessed were they! For the Lord did bless them in all their doings; yea, even they were blessed and prospered until an hundred and ten years had passed away; and the first generation from Christ had passed away, and there was no contention in all the land.

Before Christ came to the Americas there were a people that could basically be sorted into two groups: Lamanites and Nephites. They fought a lot. All the time.

Then Christ came and said "Oi! Quit that!"

So they did. And they lived in peace with one another. The scripture translates to something like this:

15 They quit fighting each other because they loved God so much and because of that they loved each other.
16 They quit wanting each other's property. They quit fighting. They quit having major battles. They quit sleeping around. They quit lying, murdering, and being skanks. Because of this they were really really happy - maybe the most happy people that had ever lived on Earth.
17 No-one robbed anyone or murdered anyone. They quit being separate people, ie "Lamanites" and "Nephites" and became one people...the children of Christ.
18 Because of this they were blessed and became wealthy temporally, spiritually and emotionally. This went on for several generations after Christ had visited America.
