Oh gosh, I've got to get off my BUM. It's 10.50am and I'm still in my nightdress at the computer. *sigh*. Really, I'm totally slothful. I've made a list of things I need to do today and I just SO don't want to do them...and thus I'm procrastinating. However, if I just DO it, do it right....do it right now =D then I won't feel so disappointed in myself.
I have been reading the Word of Wisdom and thinking and studying and have come to the conclusion that the Lord really just doesn't want us to eat oodles of meat. It's mentioned specifically that 'OI! Don't go around stuffing your faces! These things are alive, you know!'
However, Paul also received a vision where the Lord encourages him to "kill and eat". Sooooo.....
My conclusion is this. I will strive to eat a more healthy vegetarian menu, but eating meat occasionally is ok.
I was thinking about our teeth, how they're set up for us to be omnivorous. However I really believe the Lord wants us to be respectful of life and if we don't need to kill to eat...well then, don't!
You know what else bugs me? Apples. The past couple of years whenever I bite into an apple the back of my throat starts ITCHING in an unbelievable manner calculated to drive me bananas.
SO lately I've taken to washing the apples, peeling them and washing them again. While this lessens the symptoms it doesn't eliminate them. I've just eaten 1/8th of a peeled washed apple, and my teeth are buzzing (that's the only way I can describe the bizarre symptom) and the roof of my mouth and my throat, though not reacting as intensely as when I don't peel the apple, are feeling swollen and itchy.
What the heck????
Also, my leg itchiness is back. I do not believe the dermatologist's assertion that it's "Childhood asthma manifesting itself in a different way" because, frankly, I didn't HAVE childhood asthma!!! So what the heck? Why are my legs so intensely itchy?
Maybe I should look into natural remedies, but I'm as skeptical about them as I am about modern medicine.
Alright. Must clean the house now. Let the whining and screaming commence.

Sadly, I think you're allergic to apples. There's a chiropractor I see in American Fork that is trained in the NAET method of getting ridding of allergies. Freedom Chiropractic Clinic, Dr. Greg Kofford. Go see him, if you can. Having an allergy to apples completely sucks.
Unfortunately, I live quite a ways away from American Fork. =D
This is a sudden onset allergy though, which I find odd. I never had this problem a few years ago.
I bought some organic apples on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if I have the same reaction when I eat one.
Maybe it's just Gala apples that make me freak out? That would totally suck as they're my fave and every other type of apple doesn't even come close for yumminess.
There's a scripture somewhere that says if a man tells you not to eat meat, he's not speaking God's word. I'll have to see if I can find the reference somewhere. The point is, we're supposed to eat meat, but in moderation. We were given animals for our use, and the Word of Wisdom tells us that meat is there for us, esp. during times of famine. Have you ever noticed that you're hungrier in the winter? Meat is great for winter time and can help keep you warm.
We do a lot of fruit and vegetables during the summer, but we do more meat recipes in the winter. It's what our bodies need.
You also need some meat to keep your protein up. Your muscles will eat themselves if you don't get enough protein.
Tristi, I think it's in D&C 49:
18 - And whoso forbiddeth to abstain from meats, that man should not eat the same, is not ordained of God;
19 - For, behold, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which cometh of the earth, is ordained for the use of man for food and for raiment, and that he might have in abundance.
20 - But it is not given that one man should possess that which is above another, wherefore the world lieth in sin.
21 - And wo be unto man that sheddeth blood or that wasteth flesh and hath no need.
To me, this scripture means that the Lord doesn't want us to go around killing animals for fun. For example, Bert and I happened upon a hunting programme on TV; they were shooting ducks for SPORT! Just to practice! Just to show how neat they could shoot! They weren't starving, they didn't collect the ducks and eat them...they just shot them. It horrified us and I would surmise that programme was a good example of "wo be unto man that sheddeth blood or that wasteth flesh and hath no need."
I interpret that scripture as if I decide not to eat meat at all, then that's just fine. You can get complete proteins from combinations of legumes, vegetables etc. However, if I then tell other people "YOU MAY NOT EAT MEAT" then that's WAY not good. It's not up to me to decide what other people eat and what they don't eat.
Unless it's my children; with them I will certainly decide that they can't have a doughnut right before dinner. =D It's my job, as their mother to teach healthy eating habits...and to model them. It's that part I'm trying to work on. =D
Also, that bit at wasting flesh and not having the need; do I need to eat meat every day? In abundance? No. Think of the abundance of legumes in grocery stores. Not only is it extremely healthy, it's really inexpensive, and being a tightwad I LIKE that combination. =D
However, I do think that it's just fine for me to eat meat every now and then. I'm doing my best not to plan meals around the meat part...to have it as a side dish if at all...but it's just fine for me to eat it from time to time.
For example, yesterday I stuck a chicken and some veg in the crock pot and it was yum! This evening we'll have some of the leftovers in enchiladas and if there's some leftovers the day after I'll stick them in with the curry I'm making. But the chicken is the only meat we're having this week.
No it's not! I just remembered, we always have spaghetti on Sunday and I stick about 1/2 lb mincemeat in the sauce.
On another subject, Candace, I bought some organic apples. I washed one off and ate it without peeling it or anything. There was a slight tingle, but that's it! I ate the WHOLE thing with no itching or swelling. I was surprised, having been somewhat skeptical about the whole organic thing. But hey! I guess it's organic apples from now on for our family.
I'm rather tickled to be able to enjoy an apple without going insane with the itching. =)
